What is the Meaning of Life?

I have given much thought and time to contemplate that very question ever since I was a child facing death in the hospital at eight years of age. I had “died” in my hospital bed all alone and unmonitored by medical staff in an isolation ward. In those moments of “death”, I had left my physical body and encountered great beings of light and love. I was shown parts of my future and how I was to love and serve others. It was the first of three near-death experiences I was to have over the next seven plus decades of my life.

I realized at that young age, that life was not just to be lived as an entertaining passage of time, accumulating wealth, material things and power – but it was all about giving, loving and serving our greater self. I have spent my whole adult life trying to uphold that very purpose – to LOVE and SERVE others as one would do for our own self.

I realized that the collective WE were actually just ONE. We are all connected. We are all a part of the DIVINE. What happens to one of us happens to all of us. I realized that GOD (our note: please change to any name for the Divine that resonates with you, She won’t mind!) is everything and that we are only separated from that knowing by our ego’s attachment to self-identification.

We are here on earth, in this dream life of God’s creation, to evolve and reconnect with our oneness. Everything that comes to us in this life is to help us in that spiritual journey of awakening and reunification. Life is just one big school of spiritual lessons to help us find our true self again.

In the end, when you leave this earth, the only question worth asking is, “Who did you love, who did you assist and help?” It is not about who loved you but who you loved and how you gave of yourself to serve your brothers and sisters.

To me we are here to LOVE and SERVE, not to be loved or served. This is about giving and not expecting to be rewarded or given anything back. It is about understanding others and not concerning yourself with being understood. It is about your purest intentions and not about rewards of any kind. Love for others is our greatest gift and we should be as generous as we can while we are here.

Rev. Bill’s autobiography “Warrior A Spiritual Odyssey” takes us on a life quest for love, understanding, forgiveness and enlightenment.  His follow-up book “Alchemy of a Warrior’s Heart “continues that mystical journey including four trips to India for even more profound experiences with holy men, miracles and his personal relationship with the Divine. What he knows for sure after all these years – is that the only thing that is truly real is LOVE.
