This is Ling. She’s a 24 year-old girl from Cambodia. Ling was sold by her father when she was 8 to a brothel in Thailand. From that moment on she was raped, tortured and forced to be with 10 to 20 clients a day for years until she was rescued by the Together1heart & Mam Somaly, a survivor of human trafficking herself who after escaping created the center that has rescued and gave home to more than 7000 girls in 20 years.
When they are out of the brothel they are rejected by the people from their culture and seen as evil and impure. The Foundation and Somaly work on helping them overcome the trauma (!) and build a life.
Today Ling works in a bakery in the mornings, in the Foundation helping other girls and is on her 3rd year of University studying Accounting & Finance to help people like her deal better with money in unprivileged areas. Tell me, Who’s your role model now?
