Project Clean Uluwatu – Protecting Bali

We all love to travel to beautiful places like Bali to enjoy pristine nature and magic waves. But, tourism can become a real threat for the local environment. Uluwatu was first revealed to the surfing world in the classic 1972 film Morning of the Earth.  Two years later, world famous surf pioneer Gerry Lopez surfed the wave and launched Ulu’s into the mainstream spotlight. In the last 40 years mass tourism has been taking over the purity of Bali and its most loved surf spots are endangered… Uluwatu’s water is toxic. Luckily some people are working to find effective solutions. Project Clean Uluwatu, supported by luminous souls like Xavier Rudd and Rob Machado, has the goal to turn the land and marine environment surrounding Uluwatu into a pristine World Surfing Reserve to benefit the present and future Coastal Community. The way they’re following is developing intelligent waste management and educating the local populations as well as tourists to a sustainable approach. “Our mission is to become a sustainable, non-profit project assisted by the surf industry for the benefit of surfers”, they explain, “be run by the local population for the benefit of the community and visitors to Uluwatu. Create a successful case study that can be replicated in other environmentally troubled surf areas in Indonesia.” Thanks to this non-profit project things are transforming fast in a positive way. Big up to this beautiful initiative of Love in Action: you can help, donate, support in many ways!
